Mueller Park

Sunday strolls. Since we live in a new city we thought we ought to venture out and find a new hiking trail.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my "mon amies" birthday. She is my mother, confidant, counselor, adviser, and friend. I am forever grateful to her because she made me the person I am today.

What I'm Wearing

Cardigan: Hollister / V-neck: F21 / Skirt: F21 / Necklace: Anthropologie / Shoes: Forever Young

It's so cold today. It's weird how this weather can jump from warm and sunny to cold and dreary. We're supposed to be going to a barbecue tonight so I hope the weather clears up enough for us to enjoy sitting outside.

What are your plans this weekend?

I'm gonna get the old nails done and go shopping up in Park City with the Nats. I'm so excited to just have a girly 'ol time with my sister. Gosh nothing beats a weekend (:

All morning...

I was trying to figure out what occupation I could occupy so I can just do all my favorite things all day every day. Enjoying time with my friend Amy reminiscing about the high school days, where our lives our now, and what we're hoping for in the future over a simple lunch, buying just about every basic top that Forever 21 has to offer, finally giving in to my craving for some Converse sneaks since spring is bringing eighty degree weather, lounging around practicing my hand at a home pedicure since it was sandal weather all weekend long was just the thing to break from the monotony of work.

Sometimes some of the most simplest things are just the absolute best.

Looped Bun

I didn't realize how messy these pictures were. I had a really hard time with this tutorial because my camera battery died while I was filming, so I had to dig through bins to find my other camera. Then that camera's battery died before I finished. Needless to say, I was stumped several times for this post.

How is your week going?
Mine's been well. I'm glad its Thursday cuz a) it's payday and b) tomorrow is Friday. If I ruled the world we'd get a half day every Friday, or just the whole day off. Maybe some day.

Converse

[all photos via pinterest / search keyword: converse]

Lately I have been seeing Converse sneakers everywhere. I think they are such cute shoes that easily dress down any outfit and make it a more playful combination. I used to wear a similar shoe every day in junior high; when one pair would wear out I'd hop right over to the store and get some new ones. They were my no-fail, go-to shoe. It's making sense why I would want a pair now but I still can't decide if I should get some.

What do you think of Converse? Would you wear them?

Weekend Update

I woke up this morning and realized I hadn't prepared a single thing to post today. I am apparently slacking and not even minding one bit. Let's just recap. Over the weekend we hung out with old friends, did some shopping, replaced a fuel pump, enjoyed The Pie, had the parents homecoming, watched youtube videos, played cards, squeezed in some walks and a little Burn Notice. Needless to say it was a very satisfying, relaxing weekend.

"Keesh"

The first time I ever had quiche I was probably 24 years old. I know. I do not eat foods that I cannot pronounce. Usually. I had just started dating AJ and while spending time with him one day, his mom offered us both some quiche. How could I turn it down? I was still on my best behavior trying to impress AJ and get in a good rapport with his parents. From that day on I have been sold on quiche. I love it and have no idea how I went so long without it. Needless to say his mom's was the best I've ever had.

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
chopped 1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 (4.5 ounce) can mushrooms, drained [I did not add this and substituted leftover ham]
1 (6 ounce) package herb and garlic feta, crumbled
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
1 (9 inch) unbaked deep dish pie crust
4 eggs, beaten 1 cup milk
Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

In a medium skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Saute garlic and onion in butter until lightly browned, about 7 minutes. Stir in spinach, mushrooms, feta and 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Spoon mixture into pie crust.

In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and milk. Season with salt and pepper. Pour into the pastry shell, allowing egg mixture to thoroughly combine with spinach mixture.

Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle top with remaining Cheddar cheese, and bake an additional 35 to 40 minutes, until set in center. Allow to stand 10 minutes before serving.

How to dress like a French woman

I have always been fascinated by how French women dress because they maintain a sense of simplicity and minimalism which is exactly how I like to keep my wardrobe. I started researching the topic a little more in the hopes of gaining a more complete understanding of how to master the style of French women and have come up with the following tips.

First up, the cardigan. A short cardigan is great to wear with a skirt while a longer one is perfect over pants. These are nice for the cooler nights in the Fall and Spring and throughout the cold Winter. A second choice next to the cardigan is a great blazer or short jacket. It gives a more professional appeal and is an ideal way to dress up any outfit.
Next, skinny black jeans, fitted pants, or leggings. I read that there were restaurants that did not even allow patrons to enter if they were wearing denim jeans. So often times women would wear black pants. They are usually fitted or with a straight leg. I realized that if you are wearing tailored jeans or pants you will always look more put together.
Third, a great pair of flats or flat boots. French women are usually walking everywhere they go so a good pair of sturdy shoes are necessary. Forget about white tennis shoes because that is the signature look of a tourist and a definite no-no.
Fourth, a number of different colored scarves. French women keep their wardrobe in very neutral colors. Black, brown, cream or beige, with hints of navy, and gray. When you add a scarf to the mix it can really add an extra pop especially if it's a bright color that is just perfect for catching the eye.
Lastly, invest in a great bag and coat. These are staples that are used year after year and by saving up and buying a really great bag with excellent structure or a tailored wool coat you'll be able to pair them with anything else you throw on.

When Dogs Fly

What would you do for a slice of ham??

Quoteables:
[Before work yesterday I was sitting at my desk when Dorsey strolled in]
Dorsey: "Am I late?"  (...as she looks down at her watch)

[For the record, I am not always late, but usually]
---------------------------------------
Me: "Will you finish this cookie? It's starting to make me sick."
AJ: "Yeah"

[15 minutes later...the cookie is still on the counter tempting me]
Me: "You're not doing a very good job of eating this cookie."

Happy Weeeeeekend!

Quick & Easy Bun

Yesterday AJ came to have lunch with me at City Creek and on our way to the food court a woman asked for directions to get to Macys.
[*Note, the new City Creek is an outside mall meaning all doors go straight outside.]

Woman: How do I get to Macy's?
AJ: You can go out those doors and make a right.
Woman: Is there another way?
Me: You can go out these doors and it's a few buildings down.
Woman: You mean I have to go outside?
Me: Ummm...yes.
Woman: Well, I don't think I'll be coming here again.
----------------
{A conversation on the elevator with an older couple]
Woman: What floor kid?
Me: P4

Man: Look at those tiger shoes.
[Everyone looks down at my shoes]
Man: Or are they alligator or lizard?
Me: They'd be a lot more expensive if they were.

Woman: Let me see your hair.
[I turn my head; it's a side dutch braid to bun deal]
Woman: Oh wow, my hair won't do that.

Man: Neither will mine.

French & Lace Braid to Bun

Happy Hump Day!

I'm still getting my days all mixed up. I thought yesterday was Wednesday and was so ready to paint my toe nails while watching ANTM when Ringer came on instead. I was so confused, sad, and distraught when I realized it was only Tuesday. So of course I woke up this morning thinking it was Thursday. Why is this happening!?

By the way, have you ever heard of Burn Notice? We just started watching it on Netflix and it is my new favorite love. We've been watching a show or two every night cuddled up before falling asleep.

How's your spring going? I am loving it. Can't wait for pool time (:
