After devouring the Hunger Games and Millennium Trilogy I was looking around for the next big adventure. In the past two weeks I have read and enjoyed a number of books which I thought I'd review.
Divergent, Veronica Roth
If you loved the Hunger Games you'll enjoy this book.
It's not nearly as good but it brings back a similar feel. Set in the future but with society organized a bit differently. I'd recommend this book if you're craving another Hunger Games look-alike to tie you over til the movie comes out.
*Disclaimer: The second book doesn't come out until May 1, 2012. I can't wait!
Legend, Marie Lu
I enjoyed this book because I liked how cunning both main characters were. I would recommend reading this book. It almost gives the feel of Aladdin (the beggar) meeting Jasmine (the princess) in disguise and falling for each other before they find out the truth behind each other's lives.
*Disclaimer: The second book doesn't come out until Fall 2012.
Enclave, Ann Aguirre
This book reminds me of "I Am Legend" when most of civilization turns into zombie like creatures. The main characters start in an enclave underground in the subway systems of New York fighting off the "Freaks" in an effort to protect the people living in their enclave. When they are exiled to the surface they run into a gang that rules what's left of New York City but eventually travel North in a search for other human civiliations.
Delirium, Lauren Oliver
Warning: Do NOT read this book unless you like to finish a book crying your eyes out.
I finished this book literally sobbing. Sobbing. Then I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was SO mad how it ended. So mad. All the work, all the leading up to it, and then bam!
Lena turns around and looks back....
Your heart plummets in your chest and you can't believe it. You sit there shocked. Then you feel it coming. It washes over you like a hundred foot wave and you can't hold it in. You just let it go and you can't believe it. You can't believe she would do that to you. How could she finish it like that? How could she make that happen? Why did it have to end that way? Why?
Then ....Why doesn't the next book come out for another month!? It's torture!
I was literally so mad the rest of the day. AJ thought something terrible had happened and it had! Not to me but to Lena. I couldn't believe it. I was so mad and shocked and upset and just crying. Every time I pictured it in my mind I just wanted to rewrite it and put Alex right beside Lena not on the other end. Plus, if you read the next book supposedly she forgets about Alex and supposedly falls in love with someone else! Ridiculous.
Matched and Crossed, Ally Condie
These books were a little ridiculous. They're set in the future but it's mostly just a story about a girl and her foolish thoughts. If you enjoy teen love stories and all the repetitive thoughts they have over and over about what they think and do then you'll like these books. The first one is about how she's Matched with Xander to marry him but falls for another boy Ky. The second book is about how Ky is taken away and she leaves the Society to find him. The third book comes out Fall 2012.
Maze Runner, James Dashner
This book was entertaining. Definitely a guy book and part of a trilogy. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep reading the next books.

haha! Ya, matched wasn't my favorite, but I liked it. THanks for all of the tips! I've been wanting to read a few of these and now I will!
Delirium sounds good!! I also wanted to read the maze runner! Thanks for the reviews :)
Looks like you've been a little obsessed with dystopian society books like me :) I liked Matched, but didn't really like Crossed. But I love little love stories, I'm cheesy like that. I honestly don't know if I would enjoy a book if it didn't have some romance in it.
I didn't cry at Delirium, but I was pretty pissed about Alex not following her over the fence! Did he not have time or what? He just stood there! What the crap?! I'm sure that somehow they'll be together again....... right??!!
I think Divergent was my favorite out of these ones, followed by Legend. I think I need to re-read the Hunger Games because I just didn't love them like everybody and their dog did. Infact, I never finished the 3rd.
Okay, this was a super long comment. Sorry!
I love book reviews! And I've been working on compiling a summer reading list so I'll be adding some of these! Haha. I have read Divergent, Delirium, Matched and Crossed but none of the others! And I'm excited for the sequels of Divergent and Delirium!!
